Songs of the sea, the earth, the heart and spirit: All of these are in Geoff Kaufman’s ditty bag. Ballads, work songs, and songs of love; poignant songs of people engaged in life’s struggles, humorous glimpses of human foibles, and insights into history. In 1978, Geoff joined Pete Seeger and the Sloop Singers and sang with them for ten years supporting the work of Clearwater to clean up the Hudson River.
Since retiring from Mystic Seaport in 2019 after 35 years of singing and coordinating the Chantey Program and directing the Sea Music Festival, Geoff has pursued a somewhat less frantic schedule of concerts, programs, and annual musical trips. His most recent album is On a Day Like Today, released in 2024.
Geoff has built a repertoire of environmental and civil rights songs which he shares with young people, old people, people concerned with social justice. He often performs at Unitarian Universalist churches, for and with people championing care of the earth and its varied people. Come join him in New London on January 9!
