The Kennedys on April 12!

Folk-laced musical tapestry: Skill, surprises, sweet emotion

In more than two decades together, the New York duo The Kennedys has covered a broad musical landscape, surveying acoustic songwriting, organic rock, and a Byrds-inspired jangle that drew the attention of Roger McGuinn, Steve Earle, and most notably Nanci Griffith. They are brimming with ideas and new songs.

Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives, met in Austin, Texas, joined forces with Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra for a couple of years, and set out on a road that has led them all over the US and the UK. They knit disparate musical threads into a coat of many colors. Broad roots and the fulfillment of a personal American dream come together in dozens of new songs. Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everly Brothers, and the ringing 12-string jangle of the early Byrds intersperse with darker moments that recall British folk rock a la Fairport Convention.  YouTube: Safe until Tomorrow.
